MSc Position in Tissue Culture

An M.Sc. graduate student research position is available in the asparagus program beginning May or September, 2019.  The objective of the thesis project will be to improve methodology for tissue culture micropropagation. Current protocols are slow and inefficient and preliminary research has indicated that liquid culture to produce shoot clusters followed by ex vitro rooting has potential for enhancing propagation efficiency.  Several factors will be optimized to develop improved protocols.

The student in this position will be part of a research group actively engaged in traditional breeding, and projects to enhance cultivar development.  This will afford opportunities to gain broad experiences beyond the designated research project.
