Position Description:

The Department of Plant Agriculture, Ontario Agricultural College, University of Guelph, invites applications for a full-time, tenured, Associate or Full Professor Position in Wheat Breeding and Genetics, with emphasis on developing winter wheat varieties for Ontario. This position is located at the Guelph campus.

The successful candidate will lead an already-established, well-funded and well-staffed cereal breeding program, and will conduct both basic and applied research in plant breeding and genetics. Responsibilities will include teaching an undergraduate course in Grain Crops Production, and a graduate course in applied quantitative genetics. The incumbent will participate in training of highly qualified personnel, including advising of MSc and PhD students.

The position requires a PhD in Plant Breeding, Plant Genetics or related field, with leadership experience in a public or private plant breeding program producing commercially-viable cultivars. The successful candidate will have achieved national or international recognition in their field, and will have demonstrated the ability to attract external funding to support their research. Preferably, the successful candidate will also have: direct experience in breeding small grains; demonstrated, or clear potential to achieve, excellence in teaching; and a past history of productive collaboration with industry partners.
