Plant Ag family members succeed in science competitions

Varsha Jayasankar, daughter of Dr. Jay Subramanian came back from Los Angeles with a 4th place prize in the Microbiology division after the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair last week. Varsha also won a special award from the American Society of Microbiology. The fair usually draws the best of the young scientific minds from all over the world and is the largest such competition in the world. This year there were 1,783 projects by kids between the ages of 15-18 from 32 countries.

Earlier this month, Varsha won first place in the Sanofi BioGENEius Competition, hosted at the university.

Devanshi Shukla, daughter of Dr. Mukund Shukla, a postdoctoral staff member working in GRIPP with Dr. Praveen Saxena, won a gold medal and also the Innovation Challenge for best Innovation project in the intermediate category (grades 9 and 10) at the Canada Wide Science Fair held in Windsor last week.
