Overview:

Congratulations to NCWSS Award recipients - Darren Robinson, Chris Budd and Matt Underwood

At the 70th annual meeting of the North Central Weed Science Society (NCWSS) in Indianapolis, IN, Dr. Darren Robinson received the "Distinguished Achievement Award in Research”. Selection for this award is “based on demonstrated excellence and creativity in research accomplishment; in conducting research and applying the results to solve problems in weed science; and, applying unusual creativity to the research effort”. The citation for Darren’s award states that “Darren has published 85 peer reviewed manuscripts, authored or co-authored 3 book chapters, supervised and co-supervised 14 graduate students, presented 74 papers at scientific conferences, and given 121 extension  presentations and 19 short-courses.  Darren served on the board of the Canadian Weed Science Society as Treasurer, is an Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of Plant Science and Weed Technology, and has chaired the Horticulture and Specialty Crops section of the annual CWSS meeting.”

Also, during the same meeting, two of our graduate students in the weed management program at Ridgetown Campus, Chris Budd and Matt Underwood, competed against the graduate students from various universities in the North Central region of the US and received the 1^st and 2^nd best graduate student paper awards, respectively, for their presentations. Chris and Matt are truly excellent representatives of the students at the University of the Guelph and our campus.

Please join me in congratulating Darren, Chris and Matt when you see them. They are most worthy recipients of their awards!
