The University of Guelph Wheat Breeding Program focuses on developing novel wheat varieties with enhanced productivity, quality, disease resistance, and improved utility in the cropping systems, with particular emphasis on the winter grown crop in south-western Ontario. The research includes genetics and genomics studies to
- better understand the mechanisms controlling environmental adaptation of wheat in response to environmental variation.
- develop new breeding and selection strategies using novel tools.
- characterize the genetic factors controlling important traits in wheat.
