Seminar Series - D. Torkamaneh

Overview:

Agri-Genomics and Our Future Food Security

by Dr. Davoud Torkamaneh, Plant Agr., University of Guelph

LOCATION: Room 202, Crop Sci
DATE & TIME: Thursday, April 11, 2020 @ 11:00 AM

ABSTRACT

The most urgent challenge facing agriculture is ensuring that agricultural production will meet the goal of feeding a world experiencing continued exponential population growth and increasingly severe effects from climate change. At this crucial moment, genomics can play a key role to maximize the utility, diversity and yield of resources, as well as in contributing to sustained food security. Dr Torkamaneh will present the developments and improvements that he and his colleagues have done to bring and adapt genomics-based tools in agriculture.

Biography

Dr. Davoud Torkamaneh received his Ph. D. in Plant Molecular Biology from Laval University in 2017. He now works as a Computational Biologist in the Department of Plant Agriculture at the University of Guelph and the Department of Plant Sciences and Institute of Integrative Biology and Systems (IBIS) at Laval University, Quebec City.
