Implementing an Ultra-Throughput & Low-Cost Genotyping Platform at Plant Ag

Overview:

Interested members of the Department are invited to a Webex presentation followed by Q & A session given by Dr. Davoud Torkamaneh, Computational Biologist, Department of Plant Agriculture

Date:  Tuesday, July 21

Time:  1-2pm (followed by Q/A)

Title:  Implementing an Ultra-Throughput & Low-Cost Genotyping Platform at Plant Ag

To leverage the wealth of genomic data in applied research fields (e.g. genomic selection), genotyping of large populations (thousands to millions of samples) is required. In spite of the fact that several genotyping methods (e.g. GBS) have been developed, they can nonetheless be pricey when large numbers of samples need to be analyzed, such as in breeding programs. In this presentation, I will present a new genotyping platform, Targeted Fragmentation and Selective Sequencing (TFS-Seq), that harnesses two recent advances in genomics, next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and CRISPR-CAS system, to greatly facilitate the high-throughput and low-cost genotyping of large breeding populations.
