Pinewood Crop Services is an independent agriculture input retailer and agronomic service provider for the Rainy River District. We are a fully licenced agrichemical dealer through AWSA. We work to aid farmers in the district to grow successful crops, manage pests in their fields, and provide a market to sell their crops.

Position: Agronomist / Site Manager
Duration: Full-Time, Permanent
Duties: 

  • Planting:
    • Scouting fields, creating planting and spraying plans and strategies
    • Discussing with customers about crop strategies including planting options, fertility, chemical plans, etc.
    • Ensuring customers are planting correctly; checking seed depth & population
    • Coordinating plot trials
    • Coordinating logistics to ensure seed and chemical supply and demand are met.
  • Growing Season
    • Crop scouting – checking fields for pests, making notes on Climate Field View and reporting findings to customers, creating short- and long-term strategies to help customers overcome challenges.
    • Monitor plot trials.
    • Create spray plans for customers and create recommendations.
  • Harvest
    • Elevator Work – Scaling in and out trucks, Loading and unloading trucks and wagons. Keeping paperwork organized. Running and monitoring bins, fans, and dryer.
    • Grain Grading.
    • Helping customers with harvest troubles, desiccation recommendations.
    • Collect Trial data.
  • Winter:
    • Facilitate sales, customer meetings
    • Scout for new sales opportunities.
    • Develop institutional goals.
    • Analyze and report plot data.
  • Year long:
    • Maintain yard.
    • Warehouse management; loading , unloading, inventory checks, keeping within ASWA requirements
    • Set sales goals and create reports working closely with managers and Ag Advantage staff.
    • Answer calls and questions from customers and sales reps.
    • Work closely with office staff and organization staff to help resolve questions, billings, and further develop agronomic knowledge.
    • Manage employee(s).

Requirements:

  • 3 years experience working in ag retail or related field.
  • Knowledge of seed, chemical, and fertility planning.
  • Flexible hours during busy seasons (seeding – end April to end of May, harvest – mid August to mid November, occasionally during growing season).
  • Time management skill & ability to work on your own.
  • Attention to detail, ability to create accurate notes, ability to verify paperwork.
  • Physically able to work outside in all weather conditions and ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Valid G licence.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift (training will be provided).
