The Extension Services and Support Branch identifies and promotes agriculture and food production that are sustainable and enhance the economic benefits to the province. The branch maintains operations in all agriculture regions of the province to deliver ministry programs and services through a network of regional agrologists, land use planners, technical and industry specialists
 
The Industry Specialist’s purpose is to provide strategic and technical advice to the ministry to support the competitive, self-reliant, profitable and market-responsive livestock and/or poultry sector in British Columbia. This also includes collation and synthesis of industry ideas, concerns and viewpoints in regard to government priorities and activities affecting the sector. This role is expected to work closely with provincial and local industry associations.

Qualifications for this role include:
  • Undergraduate Degree or higher in the natural resource field (e.g. ecology, biology, conservation, forest sciences). Preference may be given to applicants with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration, Agriculture or a related science with a business focus)
  • Registered as a Professional Agrologist, or immediately eligible* for registration as a Professional Agrologist, with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists. *Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a professional Agrologist in another Canadian jurisdiction and able to transfer that membership to the BCIA within 6 months of employment. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have the BCIA reviews their qualifications to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience working in agriculture and food industries, including negotiating/mediating solutions including working with industry groups.
