In many areas of the world, women and children supply
the majority of the farm
labour at a tremendous social cost. The mission of the Raizada Prizes is to stimulate the development of low-cost technologies that reduce the labour of women and children on farms around the world and/or increase agricultural productivity.

The Raizada Foundation was founded in 2006 by Professor Manish N. Raizada, a faculty member at the University of Guelph in Canada. The focus of his laboratory is to discover genes responsible for plant stem cell regeneration, to develop low cost biotechnologies accessible to the Developing World and to use this information to engineer crops that require fewer nutrients and less water. Finally, he is Director of the CropLink Global Initiative, an effort to link together all of the world's agricultural experts online, in part by providing free websites to researchers in Developing Countries.

Unlike many Foundations, the Raizada Foundation is not based on a large endowment, but is funded annually by Prof. Manish N. Raizada, who donates a portion of his salary to the Foundation, with additional donations from friends and family. Therefore, at a later time, the Foundation will welcome donations from individuals, corporations, philanthropies and other organizations from around the world. At this time, the Foundation is in the process of seeking nonprofit status.
