Fruits & Vegetables

This web page provides contacts to organizations and companies that provide Ontario’s fruit and vegetable industry with information and support.

Whether in the field or the greenhouse, Ontario’ growing conditions are optimal for a wide range of crops. Apples, peaches and grapes are just a few of the fruit crops that benefit from the microclimates provided by the great lakes in Ontario. Summer vegetable production opportunities abound on the muck soils of the Bradford Marsh or on mineral soils such as are found in Norfolk County. The advanced use of greenhouse technology allows Ontario to be a world leader in tomato, cucumber and bell pepper greenhouse production. The concept of eating food produced within a 100 miles of where we live has garnered a lot of media attention in the past few years. The diversity of Ontario’s fruit and vegetable production gives residents of southern Ontario a great selection for their ‘100 Miles’ diet.
